That's how to avoid getting hit with social-fu by an essence 6 solar. Use regular-fu on them before they can start talking (though the not being able to talk underwater likely gave the mermaid just enough time to do this... had they had their heads above the water I don't want to think of how quickly Aiden would have started his usual methods).
not that aiden getting beaten up isn't fun, but where is the poor nameless fae?
probably got picked up by some ship and soul-sucked all the crew, now that I think of it...
