It's almost metaphysical fact even in the real world that Children are more in tune with the magical world because they been fully indoctrinated into our reality. Thus, why are able to see things adults cannot unless other reasons and factors come into play. The same can be said for the game world as well.
That, or the child has the awakened essence merit. ^^

The kid could be "special"* or it could just be dramatic liscence to make a cute scene between the two of them. The kid ALWAYS knows their protector is magical even if the stupid adult don't or can't even see him at all.

My guess: kids have Willpower somewhere in the quad-digit range. Ever tried to deal with a stubborn 5-year-old? 
Srsly, I'd give a little kid a doubled dodge MDV if she's under the age of 7. Or maybe the kid was just willing to spend the willpower to resist the tell's "don't look at me" signal, while the adults had no inclination to care.

Or you know she saw him powering up lunar fury and he spent enough motes for his tell to reach the "apparent to all viewers" state. And of course, other than the little girl, everyone else who could have seen his tell is dead, and he'll stop glowing by the time he gets to the girls hamlet.

I simply find it's sometimes even awesomer when you don't need ST fiat and things make sense. Abusing the golden rule of WW games has made some games I've been in quite un-fun when the ST either had a prejudice against something (like a splat), or forgot what he had said before and kept making contradictory rulings.
This part is what's most important. All my system blather is to say, "I found that cool and it played out well in my head as I read it." Idea transcends stickart prana go!
