As far as my being a mod goes, I got the job because, as far as I know, I'm reasonably polite and do pretty well with crunch. And I really don't do that much, aside from using my Piston Driven Megaton Banhammer to kill spammers. the guys who run the writing forums, now they have a hard job.

I've provided a link in the OP to the webcomics fork thread so that new people will be directed there.

As for new moderators, it's certainly something I've been considering, given the demands on the time of several of our mods. I'm considering who to tap for the job at the moment, and contrary to what some of you might think, who I'm friends with doesn't really figure into this. I'm more concerned with who'll do the job well.

Please don't take that as an open call for applications for moderator status, because it's not.

I think the biggest draw of TFS is its community of artists, both literary and picture-based. It provides a "safe" place where folks don't get flamed for their controversial or provocative ideas, and keeps little kids (who don't post so many times) from viewing "objectionable" content. I really like this forum because I know it's an adult environment where adult conversations can take place. Crunch, etc. is nice, but this forum doesn't have an abundance of it like [censored] and [censored] does.

[Disclaimer]By no stretch of the imagination am I saying that crunch here isn't good, it's just that we have a smaller community of it and no dedicated archive.[/Disclaimer]

Anyway, that's what I think this forum is best at. Mature entertainment, which doesn't always mean , but often enough that it makes it seem like a good HBO/Showtime/TFS Original show.

I'm definitely a new face around here, so I can't claim to have the history and insight that the others have, but I can offer something close to an outside opinion.

I was honestly excited when I found this place. My ST directed me to it, and I saw a fun, adult-ish community based around Exalted. Thus far, I've enjoyed my time here. I've met a few really cool people, and I've learned a lot of new things.

There are a few things that could use some work, yes. And asking the community is a great way to get input. Personally, I really like the idea of an index for fanworks. It would have to be designed via old-fashioned hard work right now, but it would be pretty amazing.

I used to frequent the Fanfiction board, but lost interest after Epiphany finished Righteous Steel. Or... one of those stories. I left that board only because didn't want to invest the time in another story or anyone else's. It had nothing to do with the community.

Well i personally enjoy this forum a lot still. It's rarely civil, most folks are nice, and while i can agree we've had a slowdown in traffic i certainly wouldn't describe the atmosphere as negative. I genuinely believe that this is a rarely pleasant part of the interwubs.

As for suggestions, the ideas on generating content are all great. I'll toss some thoughts about a webcomic in its respective thread. As for other ideas:

- How about a subforum where we have a thread for each of the major factions/locations in the setting and then everyone posts what they (and their ST's/players) have done to it? I'm sure people would love hearing about how the setting changes under the hands of the characters (or at least enjoy a list of bad things done to Gem )
- We could setup an individual subforum for gaming ideas - settings, places, monsters and characters - currently they end up in random spots without being easily accessible
- We could revive the site and generate a more friendly outward face to newcomers
- We could try and setup a gallery system for art, with tags, searchabiltiy and so on
- We could setup a wiki to hold our rules, characters and so on and help with searchability, indexing and crosslinking
- If we're trying to leave a biger mark, we will attract more people, so we will need a dedicated, well mannered admin/mod team to deal with any people without manners or acting against the positive values that this forum holds

Your right, I apologise TW. It is a proven fact that its harder to get the meaning of peoples words when its in text - the issues with the community have made me rather pessimistic about it. I am optimistic that alot of good can come from the revival were all talking about.

Hello all, I thought I'd chime in with a long-time lurker's views:

I first came here for the comic, and then I found the crunch forum. but what really hooked me was the RP logs followed by the fiction. and the pr0n. So I guess what I'm saying is we have a group of talented people that produce good stuff. Making this stuff easier to get too would go a long way towards keeping new people, methinks.

I agree with others who have called for a powerful Index. As it is, I use the Artistic Organization Module to find stuff. Which works pretty good for getting back to old stuff, but a 'tag' system (as was suggested) would be great for finding newer stuff. and of course integrating the entire forum would be necessary (Crunch, Art, and Fiction, ooh and the new webcomics) for a complete Index.

Hey all. I'll say my two bits, and try to be...useful with them. When I first came to here, I had been an old fan of the Exalted Compendium. (This is relevant.) Upon my first log in, I could already recognize a pecking order, a certain set of handles that were, more or less, the VIPs or outstanding posters. The people you recognize from the crowd. When I first set foot here, I could see the same thing. The point being that when you come here, maybe less now than before, you can see certain users who stand out from the typical crowd. And I think it happens for two reasons.

One, those people are the draw or the money. They're the creators of the content all the other non-creators are here for. The writers, artists, crunch-heads, and notable STs. They keep the people coming around, and staying here.
The second is the stranger one. For awhile there has been a chat where a lot of people go. I think that there's a "second world" effect going on here, where the people who only visit the forum are seeing these groups of people with strong interactions and ties because they are participating in another medium other that just the forum.

In summary, you have the "core" group of TFSers, some of which are the positive, traffic generating things you want, while some are the negative, "unreachable" social circle.

As for how I feel about the place...shiny new digs would be cool. Hell, a webcomic would be cool. What has not been cool has been...well, discrimination. A little loose moderating. Some people not doing their jobs, really. If that changed, that'd be pretty cool. Not sure if that's constructive. Hopefully it helps.

Another honest thing is this clamor for replies. It is really fucking nice to get them. I know. I tried writing some stuff in the writing forum, and because I didn't generate that many replies, I felt I failed. Those things can drive your production. But, I have to consider this, and figured I'd say it for all of you - you may not be getting replies because there ISN'T an interest. Asking for more of them just seems...well, just seems weak. Anyway. That's my opinion. I love you, TFS.

Hi guys, it's me.
Remember me? I crawled under a rock about a year ago, and was never heard from again, unless you were on IRC... and even then that got infrequent too.
Part of this had to do with my on-again-off-again relationship I have with the game itself, the fact that I get bored and distracted really easily and that I was really struggling to care about the community I'd helped found and shape without Rai. It's hard to maintain the kind of love I had without her. Does that make any sense at all?

I support this new comic idea. I support the reorganization of the forum. I am promising, right now, to do my best not to be a stranger any more.

I want all of us to come back together for be-awesome-to-one-another adult entertainment: the principle TFS was founded on. Let's work towards it together.

Hear, hear. We loved this community enough to keep it going this long, let's make sure it stays alive and awesome.

I'm fairly new here too. So far, I've found the community to be okay on the whole, but if you want a more vibrant community, I'd be happy to do what can be done.

My art skill: Minimal
My writing skill: Passable
My crunch skill: Pretty good

This is of course, assuming that "crunch" means working on piles of charms or lore for custom stuff, for which I've received numerous complements, both in the real world and on these forums.

If you want to start a new webcomic, I'd love to write the story/concept for it. Here's a link to my best work on this forum when it comes to stories/concepts. Of course, I'd come up with characters, scenarios and settings to keep things fresh. If we have any artists here, I'd be happy to collaborate on a project.

Better yet, we could make up custom charms to appear in the comic, and then when they're used, it shows at the bottom of the page all of the stats and notes for it, to encourage new or old ST's to take the stuff and use it for their own games. That way, it's like Crunch work mixed in with a comic.

The biggest complaints I've heard and, yes, I still lurk enough to hear them, are that Kon's buddies from the chatroom are all getting mod-status. It's no wonder most of the old regulars stopped visiting with that crowd in charge.
