While I agree with the above reservations regarding doing, say, a Pivot Child Comic, I would like to point out that Epiphany has used, with permission, a number of our characters in the various fiction stories and that might (or might not) be a good thing to emulate in the comic.

What would everyone think of a comic cast that included, say, Seras, Epiphany, Jo, Sacre, Mechanic, Cricket, Aiden, etc? Or should we confine these characters strictly to cameo appearances and come up with a completely new cast?

Interesting point.

I 100% support BrilliantRain's brilliant idea. If you're going to do art, do it on the people readers/viewers have the highest chance of recognizing. Also, let's face it, individual artists will typically do better if they have some investment and/or familiarity with the characters in question.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I'd like to remind people this is supposed to be something that the whole community can get behind, and as such we probably don't want to do a story that already is completely written and has zero possible community imput, just because there's other author cameos in it. I'm not saying "I HATE YOU AND I HATE THE CHARACTERS YOU LIKE" or anything, just that this is supposed to be a way to help get new people in the door and a group-building exercise, if I understand the mods correctly.

For what it's worth, I think the idea of basically having the comic be a giant who's-who of forumite characters can work (even if it's just eleventy-bajillion cameos while an actual plot goes on) would be pretty awesome and a great way to make sure everyone gets involved.
You know soft spoken changes nothing.

Upon further reflection, I think a giant who's who of forum characters might be better suited to a gag-a-day strip kind of thing, as most of the existing characters bring baggage of one sort or another that might be hard to accommodate in a coherent storyline.

At this point, it might be worth this group's while to ask decisively who will be involved. If you're going to have a core group of people, then coherent storyline is more manageable. If you're aiming for something anyone can just drop in on, your storyline could get a lot...weirder. Of course, you guys could appoint an Admin-style oversight/coordinator in charge of artistic flow but you might not want to go that direction.

To be honest, I see few issues with people writing/drawing with everyone else's characters (assuming you have consent). If you're new to the forum, then writing/drawing your character interacting with theirs is a splendid way to make a name for yourself. I imagine for the artist, it's also an opportunity to stretch yourself since you'll have preexisting work to derive your interpretation/take off of.

I have absolutely no bias on this, given I was not widely read until Righteous Steel when I had 'cameo' characters appear like Seras Winterblood, Dallen Andair, Dalmerik along with DPM for an Abyssal's Dissent or BrilliantRain's Mechanic in my Locust Crusade story. I like to think I'm a decent writer but having a core group of readers who read and commented because their characters were there seems to have inspired more reading and more comments from independents, as time went on.

Don't know if it's a success formula but it's the closest thing I have to one.

I'd just like to say I'd be willing to help no matter what option you choose (though I'm not particularly good at comics)~ At the least I could do some sort of 4 panel nonsense or filler.

Just dropping my name in the hat. I'd like to help out on this project if I may. I can't draw beyond stick figures but I'm up for writing dialogue or something.
Zhao Yi, "Venus! Will you look at the size of this closet?"
Midnight Rose, "Sifu, we're looking for booze here."

Current story is Sun and Stars which can be found in my notebook.

If the option chosen involves some way I can sporadically contribute content, I shall likely toss my art in when I've the time :)

As a suggestion for pulling off Option 3... in the first campaign my group held, our Glorious Solar PCs ended up with a particularly nice Factory Cathedral, in which we lived along with ten Dragonblooded, three Lunars, one Sidereal and one Abyssal. After that campaign ended, we went on to other games, but in our free time the ST (Anomaly0.01, who just signed up here) and I often joked about adding other characters to the Factory Cathedral, coming up with stories about them moving in and adding to the campaign's canon. Many stories were devised, sometimes semi-serious (adding a Lunar from elsewhere as my Solar's mate) and sometimes just silly (moving an evil Infernal into the Cathedral.)

Anyways, my suggestion would be coming up with some sort of setting that could be a starting point for a wide variety of stories. Perhaps a Cult of the Illuminated city that openly welcomes Anathema, or a specific kingdom, or even a seedy bar in Nexus where an odd knot in the Loom of Fate keeps drawing in really important, Exalted customers to the point where the owner has just gotten used to it, or whatever. Something half serious, half silly, and 100% plot-hook-y. Artists, writers or artist/writer teams could then insert their characters into said setting, writing separate stories but making reference to the events of other stories set in the same place. There could even be submissions, of both comics and stories, with accepted submissions becoming "canon" for the setting, creating a sort of continuity.

Just an idea, hope it inspires someone :) Whatever option is chosen, you can be sure I'll be reading the comic!

Teahaus comic?

EDIT: *considers this for 20 minutes, returns to it* Not necessarily an actual teahouse (though, such a convention is so basic and Vanilla it might be nice to try), but basing the comic around a location rather than a set of characters (at first)? It might lead to a sort of "short story" feel, with a lot of cameo and crossover material...

I like this idea. A teahaus would work, but what about a little shop in Nexus while sells unusual merchandise? Possibly staffed by that guy from the various comics who gets to make out with May Blossom and lunch with Ocean Pearl.

I'm cool with that. My sig character looks a lot like him (+exaltation and Artifact NA) so I can mess around with him.

We could expand his shop and do some Clerks-esque humor too. It could also serve as a good jumping off point for the other theoretical comics too. When a couple people come in wearing Orichalcum and Jade and ask for a feather duster, an esoteric book, a couple pounds of sawdust, a stuffed alligator, and a copper spoon, I think a spin-off comic might well be in order just to find out what they hell they're going to do with that stuff.

Also, perhaps we should start a list somewhere of writers, artists and misc assistants who want to get in on this project.
