Okay, okay. I get the message. I'll track down what's causing it and/or lighten the amount of CSS being pushed to the browser. If it proves to be too severe an issue, I guess I'll just revert the site to its pre-migration state and run the forum as separate from everything else or something. Sorry it's such a mess.

Nah, it's fine. I'm as frustrated with it as you are, trust me.

Also, which version of Firefox are you running in that screenshot? It might help me track down whether the problem is with the server, my code, or a particular browser render engine.

Firefox3.5.8; I've been holding off on the update to 3.6 until they support the IE tab.

Awesome. Let me see what I can track down on this issue. At the very least, I'll bring up Firebug next time it happens to verify that the webserver isn't sending a premature EOF in one of the dynamically-generated stylesheets or something. :science:

Flence, would it be possible to get the Freedom Stone Archives here? Just so we can see the old comics more easily and have the available on the front page?

You'd have to ask Rai about that. I don't have any of the comic pages uploaded, and they're still her IP.

Just so this thread isn't all me acting Mr. SRS BZNS, I thought I'd give you an idea of what kind of improvements I'm working on beyond the normal bugfixes:

  1. I'm going to rewrite the template for the smilies popup (again) so that it displays our emote collection more cleanly
  2. Dicebot integration, for the PbP forum - this using the dice roller engine from my Lady IRC bot.
  3. The ability to hotlink Wiki articles by name; both for our wiki and TvTropes. :ohdear:
  4. A forum trophy/achievement system, where mods can award users with badges in their profile for specific actions.
  5. By request, I'll be adding a link to "view unread posts" at the top of every forum page.
  6. This one's for Dino: I'll be adding a "posts to next rank" count beside the User Control Panel link. That way, you guys can see how much postworing grinding you have before you "level up"
  7. Speaking of, it sure is pretty Solar around here. I'm working on a way to dynamically change the colour of the rank images depending on the Exalt Type selected. So Lunars would get Moonsilver Essence dots, Sidereals Starmetal, etc.

Other than that, if you guys have suggestions don't hesitate to let me know. I'm always open to feedback, and I can only eat 1d6 of you per round. :cthulhu:

I'm not sure about this whole "eating forum members" thing. Think we could give not doing that a test run?

Less facetiously, the ability to use Microsoft Word-style hotkeys for text tags - ctrl+i for italics, for instance - would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on what sort of eating he means. :ssh: Then again, then Kailan or the Lady may try to kill whoever gets eaten.

(That does remind me. I keep doing ctrl+i for stuff a lot too. Rpg.net has spoiled me. :argh: )

Keyboard shortcuts for basic editing commands? That's not a bad idea, and shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

A suggestion that will sadly not be quick to implement but might be worth doing.

I very much like the idea of the Library of Sperimin (Fiction Archive) and will probably use it but it's inherently a bit prohibitive, both for old fiction and for new fiction. I'm not sure how the format posts are stored in works here vs. there but it'd be great if you could build something to map data from one to the other automatically. Perhaps even automatically after, let's say, three months.

Given the Library has a great deal more specificity surrounding posts (ie. tags, ratings, categories), perhaps set up a kind of default 'unclassified' category for fiction to map over into. Authors could then go into their fiction and, instead of having to copy everything over and fussing with formatting, etc., all they'd have to do is basically add options (ie. classify it, put it in a category, etc.).

It's a thought. I just know as an author that spending an hour cateogrizing/classifying my fiction vs. a whole weekend uploading everything over again wholesale means I may never get around to the second but the first would be a lot more likely.

Kailan: If people only ever got what they deserved, the world would be a more miserable place.

There's also the fact that the link to the fiction archive at the top of the page still goes to blackzeppelin.com and not thefreedomstone.com.

Well, I could be wrong, but I'd imagine that it'd be more for others. I probably don't have much more postwhoring grinding to go before I reach the next and final one, assuming that it's set at the magical number o'Dragon Blooded.

Keyboard shortcuts for basic editing commands? That's not a bad idea, and shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

Didn't the forum always have these? I've been using them for quite some time.

The trick is that it's not Ctrl+<key> but <OS-specific modifier key>+<key>. Enabling websites to do shortcuts is standard functionality in all major browsers and phpBB makes use of it; the problem is that the modifier key can't be the one the operating system uses for menus (like Ctrl under Windows and Linux or Cmd under OS X) because otherwise the website's and the browser's shortcuts might collide.

Under OS X the shortcuts are available using Ctrl+<key>. Under Windows I'd try Alt+<key>.

Experimentation revealed these shortcuts:
BBold
C – Code
IItalic
L – List (without list type)
O – List (with list type)
P – Image
Q – Quote
UUnderline
W – URL

These ones do stuff rather than insert tags:
H – Bring the location bar (the Board index < The Freedom Stones Forums... thingy) into view
K – Delete the current line

The following ones can really disrupt your posting.
E - Open the User Control Panel (in the current tab)
F – Makes all text smaller(?)
S – Submit
X – Log out (yeah, this one was fun to stumble across)

In hindsight, just searching the edit page's source would have given me that infrmation without trying everything out. Oh well. This way was probably still faster.
The Fonz died for our sins. Praise the Fonz!

Something's up with the search function. Apparently there's some kind of cooldown on using it, presumably to limit the drain on server resources. Only problem is, if a search turns up multiple pages of results, it's difficult to look beyond the first page - trying to see the other pages results in a page saying "Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes."
