For Autochthonia!

11 May 2011, 17:47

So, Holden wants us to make Autochthonia sell.

I support this.

Now, I suspect that there are among the readers of this site people who's wills are strong, but wallets are weak.

I cannot fault this.

As such, I am running a contest.

Contest Rules:
Because I want to allow for maximum entry, I created three categories based on Autochthon's gifts:
Faith: Entries in the Faith category are to be pictures of an Alchemical Exalt. Fan art of existing Alchemicals is fine, as are pictures of home-brewed ones. Sketches are fine.
Doctrine: Entries in the Doctrine category are to be character concepts of Alchemical characters. No-more than two or three paragraphs are needed.
Tools: Entries in the Tools category are to be Alchemical charms, with full crunch and stat block. Only one charm per contestant is necessary.

All entries must be created entirely by the given contestant, though winners can, of course, give the prize to any one they wish. Wednesday the 18th will be the last day I'll accept entries. Judging will be done by me personally, and will be largely based on how much I like a given entry, though I will listen to arguments as to why the mechanical balance of a given charm is suspect.

The entry I like best will be the overall winner and, upon receipt of the contestant's e-mail address in a PM, will be gifted with a subscription to Compass: Autochthonia. The winners in each of the two remaining categories will each be gifted with a copy of the first volume of the same book.

Not sure if I've posted this already or not, but meh. Rain doesn't remember it, and I've added a new submod anyway.

Transformative Talent Reprogramming
Cost: -- [1m]; Mins: Manipulation 5, Essence 4; Type: Permanent
Keywords: Crippling, Internal, Shaping, Stackable, Training
Duration: Permanent
Prerequisite Charms: Identity Recalibration Signal

This Charm expands its prerequisite, adding the following options to the list of actions the Alchemical may take while crushing a victim's mind:

Ability: Any of the victim's Abilities may be increased or decreased by one dot. They cannot be increased beyond the Alchemical's own rating in that Ability, or decreased below 0.

Attribute: Any of the victim's Mental Attributes, Charisma, or Manipulation may be increased or decreased by one dot. They cannot be increased beyond the Alchemical's own rating in that Attribute, or decreased below 1.

Adding dots to an Ability or Attribute is a Training effect, and removing them is a Crippling effect. Only one dot may be added to an Attribute or Ability with each activation of the Charm. Unlike its prerequisite, dots cannot be added as a temporary, one-day boost. Essence-users can revert a lowered Attribute or Ability to its normal rating by spending 4 points of willpower at any time, and may pay in installments. For mortals, the change is permanent; they must retrain and spend experience normally to raise the Attribute or Ability again.

Submodules:

Bodily Reconfiguration Nanoinjectors (3xp): With this submodule, the Alchemical may now use the Attribute function to add or subtract dots from Physical Attributes or Appearance.

Mutagenic Enhancement Unit: This voidtech submodule adds one additional new function to the list of actions the Alchemical may take while crushing a victim's mind.

Mutation: The Alchemical now has the ability to warp flesh and sinew, forcing mutations on their blessed test subjects. Positive mutations cost twice their mutation points in experience, while negative mutations grant that many experience points instead (but the experience must be paid back if the mutation is removed).

I've been reliably informed that Clone Artist will be making an Alchemical for this content in the Faith category. I may be going for an entry in the Doctrine category myself :)

Re: For DEMACIA!

I went a little long, and for that, I apologize. Still, I hope interest in this contest goes up! People should be fighting for this stuff.

Formless Crane Smiting Wickedness
The Mysterious Dancer General

They say the air was a little cold the day Formless Crane Smiting Wickedness was born. He was a cheery sort of Starmetal Alchemical from the second he was born. The technicians claim they have seen the ones who hug, the ones who look at everything blankly, and even the ones who are so stern that one would think they have been in service for a long time, but that they have never seen one whose first deed was to dance upon exiting the vat. True, much of what they would see from Crane would be dancing and performing. His superiors gave him many duties, which he did well, but he always seemed to be performing when one would expect he would be working towards the next big plan.

To say he is a fool, however, is a lie his enemies and strict superiors tell themselves because of his whimsical manner. Some of his kind would even call him a mad genius; his social engineering and scheming is done directly. Sure, he doesn’t have the same kind of insight of the entire picture as some of his associates do, but he has a crystal-clear view of the situation on the ground where he is and he exploits it along with the information funneled to him by his allies (though he’d call them dear friends). Just how often this flamboyant Champion is seen dancing for (and with) the Populat gives many the impression that the majority of his duties are to raise morale. Still, he is not hopeless when confronted with a situation that can’t be solved by emotionally compelling performances and a quick wit.

His battle armor is a strange hybrid of exposed armor and free-flowing clothing; some suspect it is a creation the state gifted him to make it easier to do his job, others suspect it is some special performance garb the technicians put onto his armor. Either way, it seems to change color and shape at his whim, though it almost always takes the form of some performer‘s outfit. Though short and wiry with long and feminine hair, he possesses a strength and staying power that a true performer would only dream of and he has two razor fans integrated and concealed in his arms for use in combat. He employs them gracefully, with the accuracy of a master and the force of a far larger Champion. If he has to go into organized large-scale battle, he brings his own battalion to the field. These lightly armed and armored individuals go into battle with spears, fans, and a variety of thrown weapons and are typically relegated to scouting and maneuvers where speed is of the essence. He recruits whoever proves worthy and willing to join this battalion: The Rapidly Accelerating Dancers’ Array. Though it is officially State Managed Forward Scout Battalion #5, he has never abused the privilege of its command before and the State sees no reason not to let him glamorize his military unit if it inspires the Populat.

A celebrity among celebrities who manipulates things from the fore, Crane is a Champion that allies can only hope to understand, enemies find endlessly annoying, and mortals whisper and gossip about when they should be working harder. To the State, he is an enigma and, to his foes, he is a twisting and twirling manifestation of the Maker’s justice...

Navigatress of Umbilical Transportation - Starmetal Caste Alchemical (Metropolis name Nut)

Image

Sova weathers the hard times of Autochtonia thanks to one of the finest masters of Autochtons conduits - the starmetal caste known as the Navigatress of Umbilical Transportation. Her expertise and mastery of tapping, rationing and reactivating old conduits has given her quite a name among the Illustrious Conductors. Among the Populat however, she's perceived as overtly cold and rational, her duties and calculations taking precedence over trivial concerns such as common pleasantries. They would be quite surprised to learn that her aloofness is a result of having to constantly deal with memories of her previous incarnations, and that it is more a product of keeping them in control then it is of her dedication to the Machine God.

The fact that the Tripartate of Sova is open to new ideas that would have been considered radical by the past generations has allowed her to branch her research and seek counduits that could be rerouted to the metropolises and patropolises of Sova. During one of these trips she was saved from Void corrupted monsters that took apart her entourage by an alchemical hero from Nurad. The moment she laid her eyes on him, she knew him as a man she used to love, many lives ago. She hoped to avoid him, but he has been popping up more and more in the reaches, leaving her split among her duty to Sova and her attraction to the man she used to love...

General of Elemental Battlefields - Jade Caste Alchemical (Patropolis name Geb)

Image

The General is a well known face in Nurad, and his deeds against the Void corrupted monstrosities around the imperiled nation are well known among the Populat. He's perceived as a rather radical member of the militat, however, as he's been using every opportunity to venture out and stage daring raids to purge blights and salvage resources. Treating his men as valued compatriots, risking his life to bring back anyone lost on his ventures and training with them as equals has made him something of a legend among the Populat. The majority of the nation's military has been advocating a more restrained, defensive attitude and his adventures and rashness are being brought into question.

The elder Alchemicals of Nurad and the members of the Tripartite would find themselves even more worried if they learned that some of his newest excursions were fueled by a desire to see a Sovan alchemical he first met in the reaches. He is drawn to her as a moth to the flame and may be risking even more then he should be...
