Five years ago each of our protagonists attended the Alexander Nash School for Exceptional Young Men and Women in Baltimore before each going their separate ways. Now, fate and a school reunion have caused their paths to cross once more.
I will leave people to guess who will eventually exalt as what, we already know but its fun to see if people can guess. For the record I play Ophelia.
Blake Wolfe- Formerly a Quarterback on the Football team, Blake went to West Point after graduation; he was wounded in action on his tour of Iraq when Insurgents detonated an IED severely injuring his face and part of his body.
Ophelia Hayes- Always friendly and outgoing at school, Ophelia used her natural showmanship to become a fairly successful stage magician. She considers her classmates rather like a second family after her parent’s divorce.
Serafina Mancini- Most people remember Serafina as a bit of a dreamer who’d rather be off exploring exotic lands than reading about them in text books and this hasn’t changed, but now she’s been all over the world to have her own adventures.
Paige Kennedy- At school Paige had all the makings of a gifted writer, but when her mother suffered a stroke Paige put her life on hold to help pay the medical bills. Her mother has passed away now, and her life still seems to be on hold.
Anthony DiGiorgio- His schoolmates remember Tony as a stand up guy who would always look out for them and in some ways he is exactly where he expected to be, in the professional wrestling circuit. What he didn't did not expect was that he was going to be stuck playing the bad guy in the ring.
Bryan Shaughnessy- Remember that guy who seemed to make every wrong choice andsomehow never suffer the consequences? That's Bryan. He's spent his entire life doing whatever he felt likeand had the world conform around him. Who knows when the silver spoon will fall from his mouth and his karmic debt will catch up to him?
Elwood Conrad- Everyone knew Elwood would go onto do something with himself, he graduated near top of his class and gained entry to a prestigious, Ivy League college in the West. Once he got there though he found himself overwhelmed with all the potential choices on offer and in five years of Undergraduate study he has switched his Major no less than six times.
Marcus Halvmane- Marcus was an unassuming boy who kept his head down and never caused trouble. When he watched his father defend his mother from a gang of youths he learnt that there was a time and a place to fight for the right reasons. Now a man, Marcus has won three martial art state championships and runs a wilderness survival camp.
Session 1: Reunion
(Note: The players of Bryan and Marcus were unable to make it to the first session.)
The group gathered at the Tremont Grand Hotel for their School Reunion. Serafina, Paige and Ophelia had met up a couple of days earlier - things seemed normal enough at this stage save for two unusual occurances. Elwood sees the school's founder, Alexander Nash, gazing up some clouds that become a six-winged, serpentine beast but on a second glance neither man nor beast is where he just saw them. Meanwhile Paige notices the lights in the hotel dim momentarily, Ophelia and Serafina who are in the same hallway notice nothing amiss.
Overlooking these strange events the group proceeds to the Reunion where they are each asigned to table 4, once everyone is seated they take some time to catch up at least until Alexander Nash Jr (the son of the man mentioned earlier) asks for the group to help him find his father.
Our heroes split up to cover more ground, with Blake and Paige eventually locating Mr Nash at a nearby development site, the rest of the group run into yet more unusual occurances that results in Elwood and Serafina moving uncontrollably towards this location.
Alexander Nash is peering down into a hole from which a white light shines- as the rest of the group arrives it becomes brighter and brighter, alarmed by this development the protagonists try to get some answers from Mr Nash and his answers only raise more questions, then the ground beneath us gives way and our not so happy group is deposited into Creation.
Nash is nowhere in sight, instead however is a man running towards us his clothes are strange, but odder still his skin has a bluish hue to it. The man tells us to run, not just that but split up because something is after us. Naturally the group wants answers, managing only to learn that his name is Gemstone Ocean Hero at about this point our monsters appear, one looking like a six winged snake with a crest of daggers, and the other like a floating dodecahedron covered in numerals, runes, and sensory organs.
Ophelia and Paige decide immediately that running really is the best option, Serafina gives chase after Ophelia. Meanwhile Blake, Tony and Elwood stand their ground in the hopes of getting more answers from Gemstone Ocean Hero. The dodecahedron fires bolts of energy which our mysterious protector defends against but as Gemstone Ocean Hero defends Elwood a tornado errupts from the young scholar's body as he takes the second breath. Elwood Conrad is now a Prince of the Earth, an Air Aspect Dragon-Blooded.
By this point the protagonists decide that they really should listen to the person who obviously knows more than they do, thus the group spilts up.
Elwood remains with Gemstone Ocean Hero as he drives back the two monsters.
Blake and Paige travel North, while Serafina, Tony and Ophelia go South- but what perils await them in this strange new world?
Gemstone Ocean Hero: "Will it make you trust me if I tell you my name?"
Tony: "No, but go ahead anyway."
Blake: "What is your name?"
Gemstone Ocean Hero: "I'm Gemstone Ocean Hero."
Paige: "That's a name?"
Blake: "Hippie parents."
Tony "Probably." He nods at Blake.
"BECAUSE IT'S SHOOTING FUCKING LASERS AT YOU!" - sage advice from Blake Wolfe, on why you Tony should run away from our attackers.
"Since when did you have a good side? I was going to say it was an improvement." Paige Kennedy on Blake's war wounds.
"Split up? that's every monster movie ever made." Serafina Mancini is genre savvy, will this help in Creation?
"I don't think we're in Baltimore anymore." Blake again, well someone had to say it.
The First Exaltation: Elwood Conrad, Air Aspect
"The creature opens fire on Elwood, but he perceives everything... distantly. The scent of mountain air fills his nose along with the calming sound of gentle zephyrs. Everything comes sharply into view as he undergoes a moment of transcendent clarity. Air is everywhere, and he is part of it. There's the sound of water rushing, and Gemstone Ocean Hero is standing in front of you, pushing you away. You know you don't need to be pushed away, though. Something's ...changed."
The rest of the group watches onward as a tornado erupts around Elwood as Gemstone Ocean Hero tackles him in time to get him out of the way of the attack. It seems to be coming out of him.
Elwood slumps to his knees as the tornado dissipates. His hoodie has been rent and ripped off him, exposing his long arms and sparks of blue electricity shoot along the exposed hairs. His platinum hair whips around him as if still blown by the long-gone breeze.
Potentially important plot points:
-Prior to our abrupt arrival in Creation Mr Nash said to Elwood that his father misses him, given his exaltation as a Dragon-Blooded this raises questions on who his father is.
-The two monsters following the group were said to be "Immortal monsters of the first world" which suggests they are not from Creation or Earth, but yet another world.
- Who (or for that matter, what?) is Alexander Nash? he clearly knew more than he was letting on.
