[Lunar][Charms] Deceptive Appearances

31 Mar 2012, 10:05

Just a trio of Charms which I was playing with. As a note: "Walking In Another's Skin Insight" has been done as an Appearance Charm as it seemed to fit the idea of 'becoming someone so much that you are them' and could be the start of a tree of 'doppelganger' Charms.

Comments and constructive criticism will be welcomed like precious gems...

Tiger Hides Her Stripes
Cost: -; Mins: Appearance 3, Essence 3;
Type: Permanent
Keywords: None
Duration: Permanent
Prerequisite Charms: Hide of the Cunning Hunter

Like the vivid stripes of the tiger, black upon orange, even the most obvious of things can be hidden if one just knows how. This Charm permanently upgrades its prerequisite such that it also conceals Artifact Tattoos. While the tattoos themselves are hidden this Charm does not conceal any additions which are not part of them such as a hearthstone held in in a tattooed Hearthstone Amulet.

In addition, Hide of the Cunning Hunter is no longer automatically revealed by supernatural senses and adds (Appearance) automatic successes to roll offs against Charms which would pierce its concealment.

Mother Bird's Broken Wing
Cost: 3m; Mins: Appearance 2, Essence 2;
Type: Simple
Keywords: Combo-OK, Illusion
Duration: One scene
Prerequisite Charms: None

On occasion a bird might pretend to be vulnerable, acting as though it had a broken wing, in order to attract attention to itself and a predator away from its vulnerable nest. Internalising this lesson a Chosen of Luna can find it useful to be seen as weak.

This Charm causes the Exalt to seem vulnerable, weak, and an ‘easy target’. When activating this Charm they may restrict this Illusion to a specific sort of vulnerability, be it seeming obviously gullible when in a social situation or apparently exhausted when in a fight, or allow it to remain general. While not compelling behaviour those who are seeking a victim will likely target her before any other, but in cases where someone is seeking strength or the greatest threat she may be passed over entirely.

The Illusion can be overcome by spending two Willpower, but breaks entirely if Lunar demonstrates that they truly are no easy target.

Walking In Another's Skin Insight
Cost: 6m; Mins: Appearance 4, Essence 2;
Type: Simple
Keywords: Combo-OK, Native
Duration: Indefinite
Prerequisite Charms: Any Appearance Excellency

To wear another’s flesh is the right of the Lunar Exalted, but some let themselves become one with the appearance they have assumed and learn the lessons that their new form can teach them. For if one can learn much by walking a mile in their shoes then how much more can be learnt by walking a mile in their skin?

This Charm may only be activated after having spent at least one scene, or one hour in dramatic time, in the targeted shape and it immediately ends if the Exalt assumes a different form. If the form is that of an animal then the following benefits apply against any member of that species, otherwise they apply against the specific individual.

The Lunar gains three bonus successes on any roll duplicate a physical action they have just seen the target perform (be it scrambling up a wall or entering a complex sequence of keypresses on a First Age device) and two bonus successes on rolls where predicting the target’s physical actions or general movements would help. This latter applies specifically in combat, including aiding the Exalt’s DV, and to attempts to track the target.

For purposes of this Charm a Lunar’s true forms are always valid, regardless of their current shape, and the Charm ends only when they wish it to. After all, the Exalt has had a lifetime to learn the secrets of her own form.
