Hamster Style Martial Arts [2e, Terrestrial Art]

11 Feb 2008, 09:43

Hamster Style Martial Arts
Terrestrial Style
Form Weapons: Unarmed Only
Armor: Allowed, but only light armor
Hamster Style has no elemental association, and never costs a mote surcharge.

Badda-Badda
Cost: 1m; Mins: Martial Arts 2, Essence 1; Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Combo-OK
Duration: see text
Prerequisite Charms: None
The martial artist drops to all fours and runs. So long as the cost of the charm remains committed, and the character remains on hands and feet, the character’s dash actions do not cause DV penalty and the distance they move per tick of dashing is doubled. This charm ends immediately if the character ceases to be on all-fours.

Ticky-Ticky
Cost: 2m; Mins: Martial Arts 3, Essence 1; Type: Supplemental
Keywords: Combo-OK
Duration: see text
Prerequisite Charms: Badda-Badda
The martial artist mimics the stealth nature of the hamster. By walking carefully, lightly repeating the mantra of this charm (“Ticky-Ticky”), the character becomes undetectable by hearing. Visual detection still requires a stealth roll to avoid. This charm remains active so long as the motes are committed, the character repeats the mantra, and they go undetected by sight.

Hamster Form
Cost: 5m; Mins: Martial Arts 4, Essence 2; Type: Simple (Speed 4, DV -1)
Keywords: Form-Type, Obvious
Duration: One Scene
Prerequisite Charms: Ticky-Ticky
The form of the Hamster is awe-inspiring in both form and power, as they have big adventures. Courage and compassion are amplified, while also not driving the hamster to self-destruction. While in this form the character’s Compassion and Valor as treated as one higher for all purposes, except for determining what actions they are forced to take as well as the die pool for gaining limit. The character cannot fail a virtue roll for a virtue raised above 5 by this charm, unless they choose to resist that virtue.

Kushi-Kushi
Cost: 4m; Mins: Martial Arts 4, Essence 2; Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Combo-OK, Social
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Hamster Form
The character squints and lightly scratches their forehead or right above their hair-line, while speaking the sacred words “Kushi-Kushi” aloud. A social attack, natural or not, is perfectly negated by this charm. However, the character’s next action cannot be a non-counterattack social attack.

Heke?
Cost: 3m; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 2; Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Combo-OK, Social, Counterattack, Compulsion
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Kushi-Kushi
The character tilts their head to the side and asks of their enemy, “Heke?” This charm is a social counter-attack that may be performed only after a social attack fails to affect the character (either by failing to bypass MDV, through willpower expenditure, or by the effects of a charm). This counterattack has automatic attack successes of [Essence + Appearance], and is compared to the defender’s Dodge MDV. If the attack is successful, it creates an unnatural mental influence that requires the target to attempt another social attack on the character on their next action, instead of any other action they might take (calling for aid or the alarm, attacking the martial artist, etc). This unnatural influence may be negated by spending 2 willpower points.

Oopaa!
Cost: 3m; Mins: Martial Arts 4, Essence 2; Type: Simple (Speed 3, DV -0)
Keywords: Combo-OK
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Hamster Form
With a mighty cry, the martial artist dives toward their goal. The character leaps up to twice their normal jumping distance, quicker and with less DV penalty than a normal misc. action. If this charm is activated while the character was using the charm “Badda-Badda”, the cost of this charm is reduced to 1m and the character may continue using “Badda-Badda” when they land without having to re-activate it or commit new motes (essentially, Badda-Badda doesn’t end even though the character is no longer running on all-fours).

Diggi-Duggi
Cost: 5m; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 2; Type: Supplemental
Keywords: Combo-Basic
Duration: see text
Prerequisite Charms: Oopaa!
The character, by repeating the mantra “Diggi-Duggi” while digging, may dig through 1 yard of any non-indestructible material by taking a miscellaneous action to do so; this rate of digging is doubled on soft surfaces like soil. The motes remain committed, and the digging continues at this rate, so long as the character performs consecutive misc. actions to dig.

KrmpKrmp
Cost: 3m, 1wp; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 3; Type: Simple (Speed 3, DV -1)
Keywords: Combo-OK, Obvious
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Diggi-Duggi, Heke?
The Supreme Art of the Hamster-stylists, the art of Krmp! allows the warrior to imitate the most dangerous ability of the hamster: latching. To use this charm, the character makes an unarmed martial artist attack against a foe. If the attack hits, the character sinks their teeth in and is now grappling their foe and may also inflict damage immediately in addition to whatever action they take for controlling the clinch (throwing, pinning, etc). Any damage inflicted by this charm may be lethal at the character’s choice. This charm may be re-activated at each opposed attempt to control the clinch. If re-activated during a clinch this charm adds the character’s [Essence] in automatic successes to control the clinch, allows the character to inflict damage in addition to controlling the clinch how they wish, and allows further clinching damage to be lethal.

Finally, the perfect Style for Faithful Pia. (Presence Specialty: Being Cute +2)
Do not confuse the inexcusable for the unforgivable. If a crime can be excused, then there was nothing to forgive in the first place. It is only when a crime is inexcusable that forgiveness is even an issue. And at that point, forgive. Forgive, if only because it sets you free. Bitterness never produced anything sweet.

BTW: Awesome style. I'm actually impressed by the creativity. What was your inspiration for the charm names?

Kitten Style would also work well for her.

So of course the answer is that she should learn both. Putting priority in these two styles for Charm selection, she'd be no good for directly kicking ass, but she'd be amazingly useful to Jak. Double points for doing so in a way that he and others might not fully understand or appreciate, as per their backstory.
