Yuan-ti - Progeny of a Forbidden God

29 Jun 2008, 21:09

Yuan-ti
Though the Yuan-ti would appear at first to be beast-men, snake-men specifically, they are in fact more akin to god-blooded. The Yuan-ti appear as humans, but with scales running along portions of their body, snake-like heads, and some of them also possess snake-tails instead of legs. Most have deep green scales, much like the Eastern and South-Eastern forests and jungles they inhabit.
The origin of the Yuan-ti begins back near the beginning of Creation. Zehir, a god of poisons, performed his duties in creation. He ensured that those who were supposed to die of poison did so. In truth, unlike many gods, Zehir enjoyed his work greatly. When the Sun began the primordial war, Zehir sided with his masters and fought against the Exalted and their allies. Several gods died horrible poisoned deaths at the hands of Zehir. However, the Sun’s forces won the primordial war, and Zehir was declared a forgotten god and banished to the deep recesses of his own domain.
Before he was caged, the laws of the primordials not in force any long, Zehir made progeny with many mortals. He gave them specific instructions on how to pray to him, that he might know the workings of the world, then ordered them to ensure their bloodline never died. From these original stock have bred the Yuan-ti race.
Even now the Yuan-ti continue to give prayer and homage to the imprisoned Zehir. They also have gathered their own cults, and bred the deadly serpents of the deep forest. Many manses, chiefly aspected toward wood and water, are under their control.

*The following Stats represent a general Yuan-ti. Exceptional members of the race are not rare and likely have higher or varied stats.
Str 5; Dex 6; Sta 4
Cha 3; Man 5; App 3
Per 3; Int 2; Wit 3

Compassion 2, Conviction 4, Temperance 2, Valor 3

Abilities: Archery 3, Martial Arts 2, Melee 3, Thrown 2, War 2, Integrity 3, Presence 2, Resistance 2 (poison +3), Survival 4, Craft (wood) 1, Investigation 2, Lore 2, Medicine 1 (poison +3), Occult 1, Athletics 2, Awareness 2, Dodge 2, Larceny 1, Stealth 5, Linguistics (old realm; wood-tongue, riverspeak) 2, Socialize 1

Special Abilities:
Chameleon Defense - Yuan-ti are able to blend in with their environment to some degree. At a distance of more than 5 yards, attacks against a Yuan-ti suffer a -1 external penalty as though from poor visibility. In situations of already poor visibility, the Yuan-ti gains the benefit of no visibility (-2 external penalty to attack them) at this range.
Slither Away - When wounded, the Yuan-ti actually grow swifter. Instead of subtracting the wound penalty from movement speed, add the reverse (-2 becomes +2) to a Yuan-ti’s speed.
Venom Immunity - Yuan-ti are immune to any poison produced by snakes, including other Yuan-ti.
Poisonous Bite - A Yuan-ti produces Coral Snake venom from its fangs. Most Yuan-ti do not bit foes in combat unless they are desperate, but instead milk their venom for use on weapons.

Attacks: (Yuan-ti routinely poison their weapons, use the stats for Coral Snake Venom, page 131 of the corebook)
Exceptional Slashing Sword - Speed 4, Accuracy 11, 9L, Parry DV 5, Rate 3
Longbow - Speed 6, Accuracy 10, 4L, Rate 3, Range 200; uses target arrows, damage is piercing
Bite - Speed 5, Accuracy 9, 5L, Rate 2; poisonous, use the stats for Coral Snake Venom

Join Battle: 5
Soak: 6B/4L/2A (2B/2L scales)
Health Levels: -0/-1/-1/-2/-2/-4/inc (may be higher for more powerful Yuan-ti)
Dodge DV: 5
Willpower: 7
Essence: 2

Additional Abilities: Some Yuan-ti have greater gifts from Zehir, or are simply more mutated. The following are basic suggestions for customizing a Yuan-ti.
* Snake-Body Abomination (from the Manual of Exalted Power: Lunars)
* Tail Pox
* Awakened Essence: the Yuan-ti has access to a mote pool equal to ([essence x5] + [willpower x2] + conviction). Many Yuan-ti with awakened essence learn Terrestrial Martial Arts, or strive to bring their essence to 3 so they can use Terrestrial Circle sorcery.
* Deflect Attack: The Yuan-ti may, as a counterattack-type action at step 9, redirect the damage of an attack onto one of their allies within reach of the attack. Requires Awakened Essence, costs 5m per use.
* Zehir’s Favor: The Yuan-ti surrounds themselves in a seething immaterial aura out to [essence] yards as a reflexive action (also reflexive to suppress, may be activated or suppressed once per action). All creatures in the area are afflicted with Coral Snake Venom at the start of each of the Yuan-ti’s action (note that Yuan-ti are immune). This effect costs 10m and 1wp to activate and remains for the scene; requires Awakened Essence.
*Swarm of Snakes: As a simple action (Speed 5, DV -2), the Yuan-ti can disperse themselves into a swarm of hundreds of snakes (use the stats for a coral snake), that slither to anywhere within 15 yards and reform at the start of the Yuan-ti’s next action. Damage done to the snakes, unless all are slain before reforming, dos not damage the Yuan-ti. Requires Awakened Essence, costs 7m to use.
"There was a young lady named bright,
Who could travel much faster than light,
She went out one day,
In a relative way,
And came back the previous night."

Love is never having to say you're sorry. Power is being able to kill anyone who asks for an apology.
Jaito: "Necromancy is like Linux, but even less sociable"
<Logos> The sugar is Asian people.
"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, watch it! I'm huge."

...I love you.

These Yuan-Ti...and the fact that my players will be in the East...EEEE!

Seriously, love. That's what's going on here.
<Sarodinian> - "The Wyld Hunt is implacable. If they came at you before and lived, they'll just be more cleaver about it next time."
<Marcellus (me)> - "Cleaver? Damn, that's like clever, but more violent."
<Sarodinian> - "Yes. Yes it is."
